This position is available to enrolled Northeastern University students who are currently eligible for Co-op July - December 2024.
The Computational Sciences (CS) department is seeking a Roux Institute co-op student. Over the Fall 2024 semester, the student will work under the direct supervision of a Computational Scientist collaborating on a research and development project to establish formal benchmarking and validation routines for a suite of multi-omics analysis workflows.
In this position, you will formalize gold standard testing data and automate benchmarking of Nextflow pipelines designed to process bulk multi-omics data (e.g., RNA, whole genome, etc.). You will ensure that workflow produce sane outputs, which recapitulate gold standard truth sets. Datasets will be designed to be as small as possible but as large as necessary. The challenges will be in developing the data required, implementing testing routines, understanding multiple diverse genomic and transcriptomic analysis requirements, and writing clean, efficient, well-documented code.
From this experience, you will leave with the ability to create fully scalable and reproducible scientific workflows using software containers, and practical experience in an array of genomic data analysis methods. During the semester you will have opportunities to present your work to the Computational Sciences group. You will collaborate closely with members of the Computational Sciences next-generation sequencing operations group, and with the broader Jackson Laboratory research community to implement and utilize what you develop.
The ideal start date for this position is by July 8, 2024.
